History
Steelhead Rescue Video - 1955The practice of rescuing and re-locating steelhead during stream dry back periods is not a new one. CHEER has been involved in this for a number of years, under the guidance of the National Marine Fisheries Service and the California Department of Fish and Game. It has in fact been practiced for over 50 years in the Pajaro River Watershed. The following video is a film that was made in 1955 when the sudden dry back of Uvas Creek trapped a large number of adult fish in one large hole. The participants pictured were State and County Game Wardens, and a group of local volunteers. We would like to share this film with you to acknowledge the dedication of those involved. The film is not of very good quality and has no sound. So just sit back and enjoy and you will be rewarded with a video of some very dedicated people and some beautiful fish.
